Newborn babies’ skin needs to be handled with care. Natural baby skin care is ideal for everybody, especially newborns so that adverse reactions and allergies will not surface. Natural baby skin care does not mean not using anything but water to cleanse the newborn baby’s skin, the term basically means using as little unnatural elements as possible. To ensure that natural baby skin care is achieved, one needs to go organic. Other than going organic, some care and common sense should also be exercised when caring for baby’s skin. Not all baby skin care tips are sound and these may just be marketing strategies by the manufacturers for better sales.

Organic Skin Care

Organic soaps and shampoos are basically mild cleansers that can actually meet the needs of baby’s skin. Many manufacturers try to ensure that the products they have will not contain allergens or any harsh chemicals that may harm the newborn baby. Soothing herbs and botanicals may work well with a newborn baby’s skin. Experts recommend using very mild chamomile or lavender to soothe and calm a baby. It is important though to have a very faint smell as babies tend to be sensitive to strong smells. Others recommend fragrance free and dye free products for natural baby skin care.

Natural baby skin care might also include the use of water which is not heavily treated. Although, the newborn baby needs to build his or her immunity and therefore should be exposed to a lot of foreign things in the course of his or her first few years in life, the kind of water needs to contain as little harsh chemicals as possible. Cleaning baby’s bottom and other parts when he or she urinates or moves the bowels may be done using cotton pads dipped in water. Some products for cleaning baby’s bottom may contain chemicals and cleansers that may irritate the sensitive skin.

Sunlight

Sun exposure is also important for babies. Exposing the newborn baby to early morning sunlight is essential because it gives him or her all the Vitamin D he or she needs for strong bones. Natural baby skin care for sun exposure states that the time of exposure should not be more than eight o’clock in the morning. Advice from experts recommend exposing baby’s skin to the sun around six  to seven in the morning since the sun’s rays are still long at this time and not strong enough to burn the newborn baby’s sensitive skin.
